I'm starting school

I've attempted many times to go to school since having children. I'm still kicking myself for not going straight to college after I got my GED right before Alexa was born. I come from a family who never went to college. My mom didn't, my dad didn't. They both went to trade schools, and my dad is a very successful person today, however my mom is now disabled and can't work. I still always have known I wanted to be a nurse. My aunt is a nurse. I decided to get my EMT when Alexa was a baby, and I've been doing that ever since, and I've always wanted more. I thought I wanted to be a paramedic but being thrown into a very intense program with little to no college background really killed me. I withdrew. I thought I could give it another shot, after taking time off and I did, I stuck it out thru the first semester, but I didn't pass to the program standards. I had a 73.something, and needed a 75 to move on. It has now been a year and I'm FINALLY starting my prerequisites to get into nursing school. I have a very long road ahead of me because my math skills are so poor I'm starting in pre-algebra. I also had a mild anxiety attack when I thought I wasn't getting financial aid when I saw I was on academic probation from an F I got in fall 2008. After talking with the financial aid office today tho things look good and I should still be able to receive my financial aid funds.
I'm sooo excited now, I cannot wait to start. Long term I want to transfer to the university of texas in austin to go to their nursing program or maybe their pediatric nurse practitioner program.

I'd love for you to come to Austin! Their nursing program is incredibly competitive, but I bet you could do it! You might be better off trying to move here early and getting residency. It would make the school cheaper, or you could even start at Austin Community College for prereqs and what not.

Congrats and keep it up. So much of college is showing up and doing the readings! And ask for help, all the time- they have whole departments there just to help- use them!

Congratulations and good luck!
Give yourself mini-breaks every day, like a bite of chocolate or a special coffee drink or an hour of yoga. Something that warms the soul a little.
Ask lots of questions, go to resource centers if they have them where you are at, get tutoring if you can.
It sounds like you've been through this before so you know what's ahead of you.
I found where I failed most was when I lost myself in the programme I was in. I was no longer Nico, I was the text in the books and the grades on my transfer.
If I could do it again I would do more hiking and crafts with my kids during the down time. The term when I got all As I took a Salsa Dancing class with my son.
Love!
