what birth control method are YOU using? :]

What are ya'll using for birth control? I've been on the pill for years, but whenever anything in life stresses me out, i get all out of wack and tend to fall behind on a lot of things, including remembering to take my pill.

I'm thinking it might be good for me to switch to something i could take less often. (although i'm not sure that would help me remember, or make me forget more since it's less often...)Any of you use that birth control implant??? I'm considering changing to that...

Just condoms here. I've had bad experiences with everything else I've tried so I've given up on hormonal birth control.

i refuse to use any kind of hormonal control-- what is the point in regulating something that does not need to be regulated you know? so we use condoms... but someone doesn't want to use condmos anymore and i already had a perscription for a diaphragm once that i never filled so when i go to the gyno then we will probably just use the diaphragm.

I won't use anything but condoms either. Not willing to put garbage in my body. He can wear a jacket! But for now, just abstinence.

Well right now, I'm using sex with my girlfriend ;)

But, in the past, I have used mirena (liked), paraguard (didn't like), nuva ring (liked) and ortho tri-cyclen (didn't like).

I got my tubes tied.. hormonal birth control wasn't my friend (estrogen gave me blood clots, progesti makes me bleed incessantly), the diaphragm gave me 2 babies, and I HATE condoms. Oh the mirena didnt like me (bled the whole time), and my uterus spit out the copper IUD.

Re: what birth control method are YOU using? :]

I've tried the patch and the nuva ring since they're suppose to have low dosages of hormones, but it still wreaked havoc on my psyche. I can't deal with the hormonal change and I shouldn't have to, dammit! My emotional stability is paramount especially after dealing with debilitating depression several years ago.

When I got pregnant we were using condoms "typically". At times we'd use the withdrawal method. M's a testament to that method's effectiveness.

After having m I was dead set on the paragard, the copper IUD. My friend had used it and loved it. She became pregnant with her first while on it, but it seemed like a good choice nevertheless. No hormones, good for 10 years, cheap as far as birth control goes. I had it implanted shortly after m was born.

I cramped on and off again for a couple months after it was put in, had some spotting but it wasn't an issue. I swore I could feel it in me for the first three months of so which was off putting but still a non issues. Then, just recently I had my first mini period since m was born. I used my diva cup and began having some issues. Either the diva cup's suction made my IUD come outta place or my uterus was trying to expel it. Either way, I knew something wasn't right cause I cramped really bad while getting the cup out. The pain was so bad I was sure I had partially pulled it out. I checked for the strings and they were much farther down then they were before. I called the dr and went in the next day.

She said she couldn't where it was. It could be in my uterus or my cervix and that they needed to do an ultrasound to be sure. She said currently it was best to think of it as ineffective. I asked her if you could use both the paragard and a menstrual cup. She knew little about the cup (she even asked me how it works) and couldn't tell me either way. I never got the ultrasound that day cause I was having issues with medicaid. I just found out that I'm no longer eligible for medicaid and at the time I wasn't sure it my current insurance would cover it. I think I should be able to do an ultrasound now without an $800 bill, but money's so tight even the $25 co-pay bothers me.

I call it my MIA IUD. If I find it isn't in place I'll get it reinserted. The dr. told me if my body did expel it there's a good chance it will do it again. blahs. And I wanted to be a paragard cheerleader.

I have a strict catholic friend who just got married and will be using natural family planning as her bc. I'm really interested in the fertility awareness method portion of it. I might ask her about it. Though now I don't really know how my cycle works with breastfeeding and everything. Even though I used to be able to predict the exact day I'd start my period, the FAM makes me nervous. I can't get pregnant again.

Right now I'm not on anything obviously, but I plan on getting on either Mirena or the copper IUD once I'm not pregnant. I just want something that I never have to think about and I cannot mess up!

I had a shitty experience with the copper IUD too (and the pill and the mini pill and the patch and Depo... grr). Sometimes I think I'm just meant to have a million babies since my body can't tolerate any of the BC I've tried (and from my experiences I just refuse to try anything else with hormones in it). Thank god I have no issues with condoms.

If you're interested in natural family planning (NFP) or fertility awareness method (FAM) (FAM is different from NFP because with NFP you abstain when fertile, and with FAM you use condoms or another barrier method while fertile) you really should read Taking Charge Of Your Fertility. It's a great book, I have a thread about it here somewhere. Really all women should read that book, even if they're not planning on using FAM, because it teaches you how your body works. Very cool.

I just use condoms, I'm nervous about hormonal birth control, and I don't mind.

we don't use any birth control right now because I am pregnant but after the baby is born my husband is getting a vasectomy so we will not have the risk of having any more children.

Condoms and I don't mind. We are to that point though that we need to think about whether or not we want more babies or not, and then go from there. The plan is a vasectomy.

missiy: How are you liking the diaphragm?

I stopped taking birth control as a whole. I've always been an emotional one. (I cry at dove commercials because they're beautiful. lol) But my emotions got very up and down at a higher rate after alexa was born, and i felt like i wasn't in control of them at all. Always thought it was because of the pregnancy. Thinking about it, i realized right after i had her is when i started birth control. I stopped cold turkey two months ago, and feel better already. Yeah, i'm still emotional, but i dont feel so out of control about my emotions as before. I want to become more aware of my fertility cycle, but while i'm learning, i need something to make me feel protected. We dont like condoms, so i'm considering the diaphragm.

i like the diaphragm but we are kind of lazy about it... (stupid i know since we don't want another baby right now) but when we were consistently using it it was great.

I've done rythm (ha) that got me two kids; condoms, i never had the self control to be consistant; diaphram - eh okay but kinda a pain, a big pain to get with medicaid; the shot- hated it, gained a ton and haven't been able to lose it all in the 10yrs since.

now the hubby is fixed- yay!

Re: what birth control method are YOU using? :]

I have my tubes clipped (Tubal Ligation). It was very difficult to find a doctor to do it at my age (I was 23), and it was a lot more painful/annoying than I had anticipated. Also, my doctor failed to explain that there would be clips, instead of cautarizing.....and I think my body hates them (despite the doctor swearing that its impossible).

All in all, it would have been a million times easier for my husband to get a vasectomy.

Re: what birth control method are YOU using? :]

I've tried everything except depo.

I've tried diaphragms (three different sizes, my cervix changes shape and size about every 3-10 days.).

I'm allergic to latex and the non-latex condoms break very easily: = my oldest :)

I've tried about 20 different types of pills: = my oldest as well (yes, I was taking the pill on schedule and using condoms and now I have a beautiful boy who'll be 11 years old tomorrow :)

I had a IUD for 6 months. The pain was so bad I could barely walk by the end of the 6 months. My partner said that he would rather be in a relationship with me where we didn't have sex than being with me while I was in pain (I love that man!). My uterus is tilted forward which was pushing the IUD into my bladder, OUCH!

Ok, now for answering your question.
I really like the vaginal film spermicide.
I also keep track of my ovulation on a calendar. So I basically use family planning in the reverse way. And having a partner who's totally into it helps the process and the intimacy.

Re: what birth control method are YOU using? :]

Finding good birth control is kind of a trial and error process, isn't it?

I've had bad experiences with hormonal methods, I don't trust myself to use condoms, and I was using a diaphragm when I conceived my oldest, but I LOVE the paraguard. I know some women who have had trouble with it, but I've used it for years without any. It's like magic - the doc/nurse/midwife puts it in, then you just don't have to worry about pregnancy until you want to. No side effects (for me), no hassle.
