How do you let loose, relax, and de-stress?

Submitted by Alexasmommy8 on Mon, 06/23/2008 - 9:53pm.

i thought it'd be fun to share. cuz you never know, we might learn something new and discover new secrets on how to RELAX.
cuz right now, my best place to relax is the toilet.
haha.
really.
man, it's the only place i can REALLY get away. from EVERYONE. even if i don't really have to go, i'll just go and sit there, and BREATHE. lol
and even still, sometimes this little three year old booger sneaks in. lol
i like to blast the music on loud sometimes, and just jump around.
cuddling and snuggling with lex.
and coming onto the computer.
what do YOU do? =]

I get on the computer, or after the boys go to bed, I make myself up some chamomille tea with sugar and milk, run a bath, light some candles, and read a book in the bath. Sometimes if I'm really really stressed I'll put the boys in their room and go to mine across the house and just breath. I imagine what would be really fun. I daydream about what life would be like if something was totally differant! Like I lived in England, or was the queen or something completely random like that.

I go to the computer to de-stress.
I also like to play rock-band on the playstation. I really get to belt out a tune, or beat the heck outta the drums. It works.
I cry a lot. It seems to help.
Or I read.

- Listen to music and dance
- Lay on my hammock and drink a beer, night or day.
- Go for a walk/exercise
- Read, light a nice smelling candle
- Drink some herbal tea, or a nice latte depending on the time of day.
- Hot bath with sea salts, dim the lights.
and any combination of such that you can emagine.

I go on the computer too. Seems like we all do. I have started going to the bathroom too to relax haha. I started noticing that SO will go to the bathroom for like 20 minutes. It kind of annoyed me but I thought I would try it and it helps. I just sit there with a crossword puzzle and chill out at a time when someone else is available to watch my kid. People rarely comment about it because they just think you're doing your business in there
Another thing I do is paint by numbers. So dorky I know but seriously just sitting there painting in the lines, only focusing on that one little thing is relaxing!
When I'm really stressed I try to get more sleep...its sometimes impossible but a nap squeezed in here or there does wonders for making me feel like I can face the day or week or whatever

-Write in my journal.
-Go running. Seriously, this is like the best relaxer ever. Too bad I can't do much of it right now, lol.

Going out and taking some pictures is always very calming for me, and the computer for short periods of time until I get bored. I also like to read a good book or lay out in the sun when its nice. And its dorky but I like to hang out with my cat sometimes lol. And I can't lie, having a drink at the end of the night always helps

-stretch
-take a walk
-do an art project with the kids
-garden
-draw, paint, or sculpt (I never have time to do this, ever though.)
-go out with my boyfriend or friend(s)
but it seems like lately I have been spending all of my time working, cleaning, and sleeping and no time doing anything else.

mmmmmm, yeah, baths are really pretty amazing. I read. I run. I cook. I eat. Playing at the park is always fun. Sometimes I put myself in "time out" and sit in my room for a minute. Mostly what's important for me in de-stressing is to spend some time doing something different than whatever has been taking up most of my time at that point.
