I had my baby!

Submitted by Yabinti on Mon, 08/04/2008 - 2:43pm.

Baby 'Nuala Summer' was born July 22nd at 2:40pm... 8lbs, 23 inches!
Born in my doula's bathroom, in the caul with a nuchal cord, lovingly caught by my fabulous midwife!
Many of you are on Facebook so you have heard the news, and seen her pictures, but I wanted to share with everyone else as well....
(It's just taken awhile!)

Congrats! I love the name. I've heard that a baby being born in the caul means good luck

How do you say her name? And what is a nuchal chord? Congrats!!

Nu, as in Noo... like noodle!
La.
The other 'a' is silent.
(We already have the family confused, they keep adding a 'w' sound... and are making it sound like N-EW-la, instead of Noo-la. Noodle example is helping though, haha!)
A nuchal cord is when the cord is wrapped around the babies neck.
You're right Wonderwall, my Celt family is all excited because 'back in the day' being born in the caul meant that you were lucky, a 'seer', were at home in water, and would never drown.

Inside the membranes... my water didn't break...
Her head and her one shoulder was out before my midwife ruptured the membranes so that when she tried to breathe she'd be able to.... and also so she could slow the birth if need be so it didn't hit my scar tissue too harshly.
I was forward though, so I didn't reopen my scar tissue... YAY!!!!!!
